TOP chef Brian Turner is returning to his Calderdale roots to help raise funds for an Elland church.

He spent the first three months of his life at Catherine Street, Elland, and still has relatives in the town.

Through his family connections he has been a supporter of the fundraising efforts at Southgate Methodist Church.

He returns on Saturday, September 24 to demonstrate his culinary skills.

He told the Courier he was still considering his menu but was likely to turn back the clock.

“It’s likely to be retro stuff - posh dishes when I was a lad like steak diane,” he said.

“I try to keep it entertaining and something people can relate and aspire to.”

Diners can expect three courses and three or four dishes.

Mr Turner, 65, left Elland when he was a baby and was brought up by his parents in Morley.

He worked at top restaurants in the UK and abroad and appeared in numerous TV shows including Ready Steady Cook and This Morning.

Tickets for the event at Southgate Christian Centre cost £20 and are available on 01422 250108.
