Fresh from her courageous Challenge Cup Final appearance, Lizzie Jones will open the main game in song at a fundraising match in honour of her husband Danny.
The event will see Halifax Select 13 play World Select 13 at the Shay Stadium pitch on Sunday October 11, opened with a rendition of Lizzie’s chart-climbing single ‘Abide with Me’.
Lizzie’s husband and former Halifax player Danny passed away in May this year after he suffered a heart attack playing for Keighley Cougars against London Skolars.
Halifax-born NRL and England international star Gareth Widdop will kick off the charity match.
Wembley winner and Halifax legend, Mick Scott will coach the Halifax select 13’s, and Robbie Hunter Paul will be captaining the World side. Liam Finn, Bobby Goulding, Lee Paterson, Bob Beswick and Mark Calderwood are some of the names taking to the stage, where the teams will take part in a four-part game of non-contact rugby.
The ticket price is £10 for adults, £5 for concessions/juniors and proceeds will go to the Danny Jones benevolent fund.
