Two Halifax sportswomen have shot above the net and raised more than £500 for well deserved charities.

Stephanie Robinson and Dawn Sutherland hosted a mixed netball charity match after being inspired by a relative and a former Halifax netball player.

Dawn’s dad beat prostate cancer around ten years ago and for the past two years, the two girls have held the mixed netball tournament to raise awareness for the disease.

The contest, where some players wore fancy dress, was also in memory of netballer Helen Thorpe, who played in the Calderdale women’s leagues at North Bridge Leisure Centre, and was cared for at Overgate Hospice, Elland, before she died.
