A Calderdale Royal Hospital nurse has retired after more than three decades of dedicated service to children’s health care.

Child Development Unit’s clinical nurse Linda Powell has retired after 36 years of nursing in Calderdale.

The majority of her career, 33 years, was spent on paediatric wards and in specialist teams caring for children in the community.

Over the last three years, Mrs Powell has managed the Child Development Unit at Calderdale Royal - supporting families caring for children with additional needs and disabilities.

The Halifax nurse said: “I am ever so greatful to everyone that I have met and worked with over the years and I would like to thank each and everyone of them for their support and encouragement which has enabled me to enjoy all the roles that I have been in.”

She said: “I have experienced the privilege of working with the most dedicated staff at the unit and our very special families.

“This has given me the fullest reward possible over the past 11 years and that is what I am going to miss the most - supporting families. It has felt like I have worked with an extended family throughout all of the years.”
