Halifax TV presenter Christa Ackroyd is the suspect of intense speculation following her lengthy absence from BBC Look North.
It has been reported she earns around £225,000 a year and the BBC wants to slash her freelance contract by around £100,000 when it expires this year.
She has co-presented Look North with Harry Gration since 2007.
Ms Ackroyd has been off screen for several weeks and both parties have not commented on the reasons.
Her salary is said to be much more than other regional TV presenters - most of whom earn around £100,000 - because the BBC poached her from Yorkshire Television’s rival Calendar to boost ratings.
Christa, who previously worked at the Courier, also runs the Brook House Bed and Breakfast at Lane Head Lane, Ogden, Halifax.
