Church marks its 150 years

A CHURCH is kickstarting its 150th celebrations tomorrow with a series of special events.

St Thomas the Apostle Church, Claremount, Halifax, is marking its milestone this week.

Events start at 7.30pm tomorrow with the Bishop of Wakefield leading Evensong.

On Saturday, Ray Sterne will lead a storytelling workshop. At 2.30pm the Savoyards Gilbert and Sullivan society will perform.

At 6pm three local musicians will perform in church – organist Alex Binns, who is studying at the Royal College of Music, trumpet player Cara James and organist Ben Brezinski.

A display charting church history will be on show in the church hall from Wednesday.

The Bishop of Pontefract will lead Sunday service at 11am with music by Littleborough Brass band.

Vicar Guy Jamieson said: “This is as much to do with the present and the future as it is the past.”
