LOVE was all around as hundreds turned out thanks to Calderdale’s churches.

The Love Halifax Festival, held at The Piece Hall, included performances from local musicians and an appearance from legendary comedian Jimmy Cricket.

The event was organised through the combined efforts of 50 churches from across Calderdale.

Dave Fawcett, who helped put the festival together, is chairman of Halifax Food and Support Drop In.

He said: “This event is really to bring people together and spread the message of love between them.

“We’ve got free hot dogs and popcorn – people just can’t believe it’s all for free. They think there’s a catch.”

Stalls offering food, bric-a-brac and information about church groups and local charities encouraged hundreds of people to stream into the Piece Hall.

Stephan Chavrimootoo, from Norton Tower, who attends All Saints Church, compered the event.
