A LONG-standing member of Southgate Methodist Church, Elland, has died aged 85.
Peter Iredale had sung with Methodist choirs in Elland for nearly 70 years.
Southgate minister Stephen Barnett said Mr Iredale lived all his life in the town and would be sadly missed.
“His cheerful disposition warmed him to others,” he said.
Mr Iredale was a former president of Elland Sunday School Union.
As a youngster he attended the former Temperance Street Methodist Church, Elland, and worked as an estimator.
During the Second World War he served with the Royal Navy in Australia and the Pacific. In 1994 he was given a Methodist hymn and psalm book after singing for 50 years with Methodist choirs. Mr Iredale was also a member of Elland Male Voice Choir and Elland Probus Club.
A thanksgiving service was held at Southgate Methodist Church.
