Clitheroe v FC Halifax Town: We have to keep winning - Aspin
BOSS Neil Aspin has urged his Town players to keep their foot on the gas when they travel to Clitheroe tonight (7.45).
Saturday's 3-0 demolition of Colwyn Bay moved the Shaymen to within a point of Lancaster City.
And if the Unibond One North leaders slip up at Prescot tonight, Aspin's side can hit top spot with a win at Shawbridge.
"We needed to put Lancaster under pressure and keep on their tails," said Aspin.
"We cannot slacken off just because we have got the gap down to a point.
"Our form has been good and confidence is good after Saturday's win.
"I felt before the Colwyn Bay game that the players were ready, but we cannot afford an off day."
Saturday's victory took Town's current run to seven wins in eight games, six of which have been at the Shay.
"Given our home record I would rather have four out of the next five at the Shay than away," said Aspin.
"But we will go to Clitheroe confident that we can get the job done and take another step along the way."
The Lancashire outfit are seventh in the table despite losing 2-0 at Prescot Cables on Saturday.
But Aspin knows that, with eight wins and three draws from their 15 home games, they will provide a stern test for his side.
"I have seen them play a couple of times, most recently last month, and they are a young side with a lot of energy," he said.
"They have some good players and are sharp up front so it will be a test - it always is with their sloping pitch."
James Riley will be missing tonight after he limped out of the action early on Saturday with a calf strain.
And with Tom Baker playing his last game before a three-match suspension Aspin is looking to strengthen his squad.
He had hoped to have brought someone in before Saturday's game against Colwyn Bay, but was left frustrated when Huddersfield Town changed their mind about allowing one of their youngsters to come to the Shay.
"I am so frustrated," said Aspin. "We had a player we'd agreed to take on loan from Huddersfield.
"Then Lee Clark knocked it back because the level we are playing at is not high enough in their eyes for the player.
"It was a real slap in the face because everything is done professionally at this club.
"We certainly play football in the right way and the lad wanted to come.
"At the end of the day you are hoping the managers higher up can do you a favour.
"They have not had to start at non league level and have been very fortunate.
"It was disappointing but we will keep trying and hopefully bring in a player this week."
