At the Yorkshire Hockey Regional Finals, held at Park Lane High School, Huw’s friend Will Bowers, 14, collected cash for the charity set up to remember the much-loved teenager – The Huw Thatcher Trust.

Will’s dad Nigel, who was playing in the competition as part of the Halifax third team and helped with the collection, said: “We haven’t counted how much was donated yet but we got a good response.”

The trust supports the Disabilities Trust charity, in particular its Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust division.

So far more than £5,000 has been raised and there are a host of events lined up over the coming months including a concert at the Picturedrome in Holmfirth.
