ELLAND District Partnership is taking an active role in the Yorkshire in Bloom competition.
It is giving wheelbarrows and compost to primary schools and inviting entries for a “best decorative wheelbarrow” at Elland Carnival on August 6.
“We want to encourage gardening and green conservation,” said partnership chairman Joe Braithwaite.
Sponsorship has been given by Armitage’s Garden Centre, Birchencliffe.
Children are also designing a poster to be given to Yorkshire in Bloom judges when they visit the town on July 8.
The winning entry is worth £50 to the child’s school.
A recent meeting of the partnership was given updates on renovation work at Shaw Park, Holywell Green, and the Totally Locally campaign.
Mr Braithwaite is also appealing for community groups to contact him regarding the Queen’s diamond jubilee next year.
He said it might be possible to collaborate resources and organise a big event such as a Party in the Park.
He can be contacted on 01422 373390.
