community champion - sponsored by Stone dam FURNITURE.

Our Community Champion award celebrats those individuals who have engaged, inspired and motivated others in support of a charitable organisation or cause.

It’s hard not to be impressed by Pam Burton and her dedicated work in helping the children of Calderdale with leading family charity Home-Start.

As chair of Home-Start’s Board of Trustees for 12 years, Pam has worked tirelessly, with commitment and dedication above and beyond the call of duty to ensure Home-Start thrives, grows and flourishes in often challenging circumstances.

She is passionate about helping Calderdale’s youngsters get the best start in life to achieve their full potential.

Pam is described as a rock through difficult times by her fellow staff, for her faith in them and her determination to see Home-Start succeed.

After winning the award, Pam said: “I’m gobsmacked, it’s not just about me, it’s about all people I work with.

“Children are our future and if we don’t give them a future, what can we do?”

Not only does Pam act as a fantastic ambassador for the charity, she is also actively involved in other areas of the Calderdale community. All her work is aimed at the children of Calderdale and their opportunities. Pam’s passion for education is at the heart of all she does.

All of this adds up to a picture of an individual who has made an enormous difference to the lives of many across the borough.

Also shortlisted were Geraldine Peters, Phil Hawdon and John McGall.
