Plans to extend the opening hours of a Sowerby Bridge club have been refused by Calderale Council.

Lee Nuttall, owner of the Roxy venue on Wharf Street, applied to the planning department to allow opening of the premises until 5am on all bank and public holidays.

But the council refused the application following concerns that a noise survey had not been submitted with the application.

Lee Nuttall, speaking before the planning committee, explained that he had applied for the license to allow the venue to show American sports.

“On bank holidays, Sowerby Bridge is the place to be,” Mr Nuttall said.

A proposal made by Coun Faisal Shoukat (Lab, Park) to defer the application until the submission of a noise report was rejected by the committee.

Councillor Daniel Sutherland (Lab, Illingworth and Mixenden), said: “There is nothing in this report that shows any willingness to tackle these issues.”
