Calderdale Council has further funds to spend on community groups in the next financial year.

In 2013/14, 25 community groups were allocated council funding to help with costs from transport costs to recruitment expenses.

The coming of the Tour de France to Calderdale and Yorkshire Festival has encouraged the establishment of community groups who have benefited from the council’s Small Grants Panel.

Long established dance group Annapurna Indian Dance were awarded £675 to add an extra performance of their ‘Bicycle with Barefoot’ dance in Brighouse in the Yorkshire Festival fringe programme.

Another beneficiary, Outta Place Ltd. was allocated £1,000 from the panel towards dance projects during the Tour de France.

Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Steve Sweeney, said: “Calderdale is lucky to be host to a great number of successful and diverse events and festivals, and it’s fantastic that the Council has a designated fund to help these flourish.

“This year is especially exciting as we have so many Yorkshire Festival 2014 and fringe events taking place in the borough. I’m pleased that we can offer financial support to help support community organisations and increase cultural events in the borough.”
