Councillor is charged with assault

ONE of the two youngest members of Calderdale Council will appear in court next week charged with common assault.

Twenty-three year old Daniel Sutherland has represented the Illingworth and Mixenden area since 2010.

He was arrested following an incident in Halifax which is believed to involve a young woman.

The Labour councillor is due to appear before Calderdale Magistrates on Tuesday.

Councillor Sutherland, who chairs the council’s planning committee, told the Courier he would rather not talk about the situation at the moment.

He is also a member of the council’s governance and business committee and the social care for children review group.

Councillor Sutherland, who lives at Mozeley Drive, Illingworth, and has played rugby for Ovenden Rugby League Football Club for six years. He is a member of the management board at Illingworth Centre Committee, Mixenden Parent’s Committee and the North Halifax Partnership.

His mother, Lisa Lambert, was elected to the council in May.
