A fundraiser will cycle to Cyprus in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for The Royal British Legion.
Craig Marsden, a Ministry of Defence fireman, set off from RAF Linton-On-Ouse and will make his way to RAF Akrotiri, Limassol, Cyprus.
“I hoping to take five weeks to get there,” said Mr Marsden.
“All the money I raise is going straight to the British Legion. I have paid for all the logistics myself so that nothing comes out of the charity money.”
He will make the majority of the trek across Europe on his own but will be pleased to be joined by friend Tony Twybill for part of the journey.
“I used to be an RAF fireman and served overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said Mr Marsden.
“I have seen the injured troops and I think the British Legion can sometimes get slightly neglected.
“They offer help and advice to ex-servicemen and it really is a vital service.”
Any money raised from the ride will be boosted by Barclays, in York, who have agreed to contribute £3,000 to the total.
Mr Marsden has already been round with former and existing servicemen collecting donations and has already raised more than £2,000.
