FIREFIGHTERS across Calderdale have a different look after putting themselves at the mercy of the barbers.

A group of 20 from across the Calderdale District and Halifax White Watch had their heads shaved to raise money for Overgate Hospice and the Firefighters Charity.

Their efforts have raised £1,200.

One of those taking part was Izak Andrews-Parry, whose dad Neal is a crew commander at Halifax station.

Izak saying goodbye to his flowing locks added £50 to their total.

A bag-packing day at Marks and Spencers in Halifax raised £900.

Each customer was given a raffle ticket.

Meanwhile, members of Halifax Blue Watch joined Calderdale District Commander Nigel Hotson and station manager for Calderdale District Dom Furby playing Santa for a day when they visited the children’s ward at Calderdale Royal Hospital.

They handed out toys bought using cash raised at Calderdale Emergency Services Day and the Marks and Spencer bag-packing, as well as toys donated by staff at Toymaster.

Ward sister Karen Foster thanked the fire service for the donations.
