Cricket: Demon Dan bags seven at Avenue

DAN Roddis produced a superb spell of bowling to keep Clayton riding high in Division Two.

The opening bowler dismissed the first seven Wibsey Park Chapel batsmen at Bradford Park Avenue to leave the home side in tatters.

And hardly any runs were conceded by his teammates at the other end as Wibsey folded for 94 in reply to Clayton's 164, which included 30s from Matthew Connell, Sam Wilson and Gurdiv Singh.

Clayton retain a four-point advantage at the top over Stones, who were four wicket winners at home to Stainland.

Stainland lost their openers for ducks but Andrew Brown (64) and Ryan Severn (23) stopped the rot for a time and the visitors totalled 125 with slow bowler Ben Watkins taking four for 23.

Kevin Hutchinson took three for 16 as the visitors tried to hit back but 40 from Matt Dunn and 36 from Steve Heptinstall helped Stones to their target.

Third-placed Outlane lost more ground when they suffered a fourth successive defeat, this time at home to Shelf.

Things were going quite well for the home side with second wicket pair Dan Crosland (42) and Pete Loraine (54) at the crease but both fell to wily veteran Jack Wilson, who then dismissed three middle order men to finish with five for 25.

Shelf lost early wickets in reply but Jonathan Marshall made 56 before Chris Maloney (37 no) and Steve Priestley (28 no) clinched a four wicket win.

Queensbury made it three wins in a row with a comfortable nine wicket victory over Augustinians at Laund Hill.

Batting first on a damp pitch, Augustinians were soon in trouble at 30 for four. A stand of 50 between Lennox Cadore (36) and David Robinson (32) gave them hope before spinner Andy Bruce (six for 41) finished them off for a lowly 112.

Queensbury lost in-form skipper James Myers for 49 but opening partner Damian Weston (50 no) saw it through to the end.
