Cricket: Skipper leads from front

LOWLY Queensbury made it two wins in a row with a nine wicket victory over Low Moor at Old Guy Road.
Led by in-form skipper Phil Sharples, who was well-supported by Andy Bruce and wicketkeeper/batsman Scott Osbourne, Bury eased home thanks also to some sharp close catching.
Low Moor struggled to make headway against off spinner Bruce and were in trouble at 79 for seven.
Bruce bowled unchanged to finish with three for 20 while Sharples weighed in with five for 40 before a late rally saw the visitors close on 137 for nine.
An opening partnership of 83 between Sharples (46 not out) and Osbourne (58) all but sealed the win which came with 10 overs to spare.
Zimbabwean Ian Nicolson claimed six Jer Lane wickets but it was not enough to prevent his Luddenden Foot side sliding to a 48-run defeat.
Mick Hustler made 60 at the top of the Jer Lane order, but it was a late charge from the tail-enders that gave their innings real impetus and allowed them to finish on 261 for nine, 10th man Phil Yeadon finishing unbeaten on 42.
Foot made a slow start in response and although many of their batsmen played themselves in, they could not build up a decent head of steam.
That led to them falling short despite great knocks from Gavin Hayes (80) and Mark Wade (59).
Blackley picked up another 10 points in their promotion quest courtesy of a four wicket win over King Cross.
Cross were always struggling to impose themselves and after limping to 90 for six they were finally shot out for 127, James Watson collecting six wickets at a cost of 55.
Blackley's response was not without its problems as Andy Roy (three for 53) and Asif Ramzan (three for 35) pinned them down before Chris Overend's unbeaten 45 proved invaluable.
