POLICE have revealed armed raiders who targetted a bank in Queensbury were wearing Ronald Reagan masks.
As reported in yesterday’s Courier, two men, armed with a sledgehammer and crowbar, struck at the Yorkshire Bank in High Street, but fled empty handed.
Detective Inspector Ian Bryar, who is leading the investigation, said the masks, reminiscent of those used in a bank robbery scene in the film Point Break, may provide clues.
He said: “From our initial inquiries we believe the men were white and spoke with Yorkshire accents.
“They had taken great care to conceal their identity and were wearing distinctive Ronald Reagan masks.
“I would call on any retailers who may have recently sold masks of this type to come forward,” he added.
Police believe a third man may have been waiting outside in a black BMW getaway car.
“This vehicle was displaying false number plates and was stolen from the Manchester area. We are working with our colleagues across the Pennines,” said Detective Inspector Bryar.
“It is likely the robbers made off in another vehicle after dumping the BMW and I would like to speak to anyone who saw it being abandoned in Chapel Lane or the movements of any other vehicle used.
“I would also ask that if you saw anything suspicious at the bank before the incident to get in touch.”
