CCTV footage after attempted robbery

Police have released CCTV footage and a still of a man they want to speak to in connection with an attempted robbery in Ferrybridge.

Wakefield District CID want to speak to anyone who recognoses the man pictured or has information about Saturday’s incident which took place at about 8.34am at a bookmakers on Fishergate in Knottingley, Pontefract.

A man entered the bookmakers, pointed an object which could have been a handgun at a member of staff sat behind the counter screen, and demanded money.

The staff member refused however, causing the suspect turn and leave the business empty handed.

No-one was hurt as a result of the incident.

The suspect has been described as a white man in his late 30’s, stocky and about 5ft 6ins tall. He was wearing a brown jacket which had a hood, blue jeans, dark coloured gloves and shoes.

He was also wearing a black scarf around his nose and mouth and was carrying a white plastic bag.

DC Andrew Hicks of Wakefield CID, said: “We are conducting enquiries into this offence and would ask anyone who recognises the man pictured or who has information about the incident to contact us at Wakefield CID on 101.

“Information can also be given in confidence to CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.”
