Crackdown nets 19 anglers

NEARLY one in 10 anglers across Yorkshire were caught fishing illegally.

Environment Agency bailiffs carried out a crackdown visiting 52 sites.

They questioned 192 anglers and reported 19 for offences - mainly fishing without a licence.

Peter Mischenko, fisheries technical officer for the Environment Agency said: “Our message is clear – buy a licence otherwise we will prosecute you.

“We are out in all weathers checking rod licences and we work with angling clubs and the police to protect our fisheries, so there is no hiding place for people who cheat honest anglers.”
