With the clocks going forward this weekend, residents are being reminded that it only takes a minute for a burglar to break into a house and steal treasured possessions.
This time of year means it gets dark later, say West Yorkshire Police, but it also means people tend to leave their doors and windows open, providing opportunities to sneak-in thieves.
“A thief can be in and out of your house in no time at all. It can literally take a minute for someone to sneak in and steal your treasured possessions,” said Chief Inspector Mark McManus.
“But it also only takes a minute to lock your doors and windows. This makes life much more difficult for a thief trying to sneak in. If a thief tries a door and finds it locked, it is more than likely they will simply move on to another house to try a different door.”
