Elland firm fined for safety breach

Design and Display Ltd was fined £2,000 for admitting contravening a health and safety regulation.

The firm, based at Lowfields, makes shopfitting equipment and an employee had his arm crushed when it was drawn into an unguarded machine.

The 35-year-old Siddal man suffered extensive damage to his right arm in February 2011.

He now only has limited use of the limb and has not worked since.

The court accepted the company had an exemplary safety record and the worker had acted completely out of character.

But, the company was told that didn’t negate it from responsibility.

It was also ordered to pay £1,613 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

More on this story in Friday’s Courier.
