An FC Halifax Town fan has pleaded not guilty to racially abusing a Chester FC goalkeeper during a match between the two teams on Febnruary 13.
Matthew Graham Sewell, 32, appeared before Chester magistrates charged with racial harassment following Chester’s 2-1 win in the televised Skrill Premier clash.
Goalkeeper Aaron Chapman, who is currently on loan at the club from Chesterfield, was substituted early during what was his first match for the club when he dislocated a bone in his hand after 70 minutes.
But during the match, played at the Blues’ Swansway stadium, the 6ft 8ins player was allegedly subjected to racist abuse from rival supporters.
Mr Sewell, of College Terrace, Halifax, is due to appear back before the court of May 16 for a summary trial.
