A former Premier League footballer faces a trial at Calderdale Magistrates court.

Ade Akinbiyi, who was bought by Leicester City in a deal worth £5 million in 2000, is charged with using a hand-held mobile phone while driving on Bradford Road in Brighouse on 16 February this year.

Akinbiyi, 38, of Woodseaves in Stafford, denies the charge.

His trial was due to be held today, but was adjourned by Magistrates until next February.

The striker, who commanded over £11 million in transfer fees during his 17 year career, made one international appearance for Nigeria in 1999.

He played for 12 different football league clubs, including Leicester, Wolves, Burnley, Stoke City, Norwich City and Sheffield United.
