Police are investigating a the theft of a gas van in Wyke.
The van was taken from Westfield Lane in Wyke on Tuesday between 12.40pm and 12.55pm.
The vehicle is a Ford transit double cab flat bed marked with Northern Gas Network signage.
Officers say they are concerned it could be used by bogus callers.
They are urging homeowners to check the identification of anyone entering their house.
Detective Inspector Mark Truelove of Kirklees CID said: “I want to remind people to be on their guard and contact the police immediately if they see anyone acting suspiciously in their street or calling at homes.
“We also want people to keep an eye out for their elderly neighbours. If you see someone calling on them and you’re suspicious then contact the police straight away.
“Don’t allow strangers into your home if they are not from a company or organisation that is expected for a pre-arranged visit. Keep the door on a chain and ask to see their identification badge and contact the company they claim to work for. Genuine callers will not mind waiting or coming back.”
