A jury in the case of two Halifax women facing ten counts of cruelty to a person under 16 at a Halifax school have been sworn in at Bradford Crown Court this lunchtime (Monday).

The trial of Deborah McDonald, of Birks Hall Terrace, Halifax, and Rachel Louise Regan, of Cousin Lane, Illingworth, will start this afternoon.

Both women denied the charges at an earlier hearing.

The charges relate to a number of incidents that allegedly took place at the school between September 1, 2012 and January 26, 2013.

Judge Neil Davey QC told the jury: “Cruelty to a child will evoke emotion. Put aside that emotion and be calm and cool.”
