Police are appealing for information after an elderly woman was confronted by two men during an attempted robbery at her home in Leeds.

Shortly before 1am yesterday, (February 25), the 76-year-old victim was asleep on the sofa at her home in Balmoral Chase, Hunslet, when she was disturbed by a man wearing a balaclava entering the living room. She then noticed a second man going into her bedroom.

She tried to push the first man out of the living room but he grabbed her by the throat. She managed to force him out of the room and lock the door.

The men made an untidy search of the property and left. It is not believed anything was stolen. The men snapped the front door lock to get in.

Both men were described as white, slim, about 5ft 9ins tall and aged 20 to 25. The one wearing a balaclava was wearing dark clothing and the other man was dressed in navy blue.

PC Paul Tyrer, of Leeds District Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “This was clearly a terrifying experience for this elderly victim to be attacked in her home by a masked man. We are conducting extensive enquiries to trace the men responsible and we would like to hear from anyone who saw these men acting suspiciously in the area or who has any information that could assist in identifying them.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 3575 Tyrer at Elland Road via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
