Police in Huddersfield have arrested a 37-year-old local man in connection with an assault on New Road, near the Oval, in Holmfirth on Thursday night.

The 22-year-old female victim was treated at Leeds General Infirmary for serious but non-life threatening head and neck injuries and remains in hospital.

The incident took place after the female victim and her 21-year-old friend, who had been driving home from a night out in separate cars, both had to stop on seeing a bike in the middle of the road.

As the 21-year-old left her car to move the bike she was shouted at by a man at the bus shelter who came towards her holding a bottle.

The man continued to shout at her to leave the bike alone, but walked up to the second car and used the bottle to smash the driver’s side passenger window.

This resulted in the 22-year-old woman inside receiving serious facial injuries from the flying glass.

Both women drove away to safety and called emergency services.
