A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving whilst over the prescribed limit following a fatal crash in Triangle, near Sowerby Bridge.

FC Halifax Town’s director of business development Debbie Charlton was killed in the multi-vehicle crash on Rochdale Road at 8.30pm on Saturday.

The 44-year-old from Cleckheaton was the front seat passenger in the Vauxhall Adam being driven by the man who has been arrested. He is currently in hospital with serious injuries, although his condition is stable.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash which involved four vehicles - the Vauxhall Adam, a Mercedes A150, a Volkswagen Passat and an Audi A3.

At the time of the incident it is believed the Adam was travelling from the direction of Rochdale towards Sowerby Bridge when it collided with a parked vehicle and then the Mercedes, which was travelling in the opposing direction.

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to contact Sergeant Ann Drury of The West Yorkshire Police Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.
