An 18-year-old Halifax man was given a 12 month conditional discharge at Calderdale Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to stealing 19 Ambi Pur air freshenshers and a bottle of stain remover.
Denis Balog of Newstead Terrace, Halifax, and two friends, were stopped by police after leaving the Home Bargains store at Crossley Retail Park, Halifax, with the stolen goods totalling £62.78.
Upon arrest Balog tested positive for opiates and cocaine.
His key worker told the court that since his arrest Balog had been working hard to turn his life around.
She said: “He is addressing his drug problem and improving his life.”
Balog was given a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £20.92 in compensation, a £15 surcharge, and £85 in costs, totalling £120.92.
