Man critical after Leeds attack

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in North East Leeds last night. (Sat)

Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident between 10.30pm and 11.30pm in Shakespeare Grange.

It occurred after a 36-year-old male was assaulted and suffered a serious head injury after intervening in a dispute between a teenage man and woman he had seen arguing.

He suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he is described as in a critical but stable condition.

The male suspect who is believed to have struck him was described as white, 17-18-years-old with short brown hair. He was described as well built for his age and was wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts.

The girl he was with was described as white, 17-18-years old and wearing a dress.

The couple are believed to have made off down a ginnel following the assault.
