Police are hunting a gang of muggers after a man was headbutted in Huddersfield.

The victim - a student in his 20s - was alking along Whitehead Road at 3.15pm on Sunday when he saw a group of men asking a woman for a cigarette.

He heard her refuse and walk away, at which point the victim was stopped by the gang who asked him for a cigarette.

He refused and was threatened by the gang who demanded his mobile phone. Fearing for his safety, the victim gave the men cash instead of his phone and tried to walk away.

But one of the gang followed him, headbutted him and stole his watch.

The main suspect was a man with brown hair, wearing blue jeans and a brightly coloured jacket.

Witnesses, especially the woman who was being asked for a cigarette by the suspects before the victim was assaulted and robbed, are asked to contact Detective Constable Marie Whitehouse at Huddersfield CID via 101.
