Burglars broke into the Midgley Village shop at Towngate overnight.

Police were called around 9 am today (Mon) to the community shop run by volunteers.

Committee member Alistair Grant said the burglars damaged a door to gain entry but no money was left in the shop overnight.

Mr Grant said the burglars may have been looking for cigarettes or alcohol but those products aren’t sold and repairs were being organised.

“It’s a complete nuisance and they have caused a load of hassle,” said Mr Grant.
