Police are making a fresh appeal for help finding the culprit behind a violent mugging which left an elderly man with a broken hip.

The 76-year-old victim was at his home in Kensington Gardens in Elland when a man knocked at his door.

The victim had got up to answer the door but a masked man had already got inside.

The pensioner was pushed to the floor and the man stole jewellery before escaping.

Officers believe the man they want to speak to in connection with the incident might know the victim as he referred to him by a shortened version of his name.

He is described as white, aged 57 and well or heavily built. He was wearing a tight fitting blue woollen hat pulled down to the eyes as well as a green and beige camouflage jacket pulled up over the nose. Only his eyes were visible.

Any witnesses to the robbery, at 5.40pm on Sunday, January 13, are being asked to call Detective Constable John Orley from Calderdale CID on 101.

Information can also be passed on anonymously via CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111.
