Police appeal over post office robbery

Detectives in Calderdale are appealing for witnesses after a robbery at a post office on Towngate, Heptonstall on Friday 7 June.

The incident happened at 5.50pm.

A man entered the premises and demanded money. He was armed with what was believed to be a knife.

He then struggled with a male member of staff before leaving empty handed. The male member of staff received a small cut to his hand.

Officers want to speak to man seen hanging around the area for a number of hours before the incident. He is described as aged in his late 20s between 5”10 and 6” tall, clean shaven with short dark hair and of a muscular build. He is white.

Detective Inspector John Priestley of Calderdale CID, said:

“This is a serious incident with the deliberate use of a weapon that could have resulted in serious injuries. I would appeal to anyone who saw the man hanging around the area or know who he is to contact Calderdale CID on 101 and ask to speak to Detective Sergeant Simon Archer or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
