Police carried out checks on taxis working in Halifax and Sowerby Bridge last night.
Working with staff from Calderdale Council’s licensing team,Halifax Central neighbourhood policing team officers were ensuring that private hire drivers were abiding by the rules of their licences.
They said a small number of drivers were found to be plying for hire and had their badges and licences suspended and confiscated.
PC Andrew Bingham. from the team, said: “This kind of enforcement is important because we all want to know that we can get into a taxi and head home safe in the knowledge that the driver is regulated and adhereing to the terms of his or her licence.
“Taxi drivers often deal with intoxicated people, some may be lone females who are particularly vulnerable, so it’s right that we maintain expectations around personal safety.”
