Police in Halifax have been clamping down on fine dodgers.

During an operation last week, officers from Halifax Central neighbourhood policing team joined forces with fine warrant officers to execute warrants of more than £4,000.

Twelve people owing money were dealt with during the day of action and 11 people have now paid up. A 45-year-old woman has been ordered to appear before magistrates.

Sergeant Warren Pitman, from the team, said: “One of the ways criminals are punished at court is to be hit in the pocket and ordered to pay money.

“This operation is about getting those unpaid fines settled and arresting people who think they can ignore a fine.”
