Police are appealing for help in the search for a man suspected of fraud in Cleckheaton.
The man approached a female resident on Robertson Terrace, Gomersal, Cleckheaton on January 14.
The suspect said he worked for a garden centre, and asked if she would like to buy plants or wanted any gardening work doing.
The victim, a 66-year-old woman, agreed for him to carry out some work to her fencing and paid a cash deposit for him to come and carry out the work on January 23.
The male failed to appear however and subsequent enquires established he did not work for the garden centre he claimed to be from.
PC 1030 Nick O’Meila of the Spen Valley NPT, said: “We are continuing enquiries into this offence and I would remind residents that you are under no obligation to ever agree to work proposed by a cold caller or let them into your homes.
“All callers who claim to be from organisations should carry ID and should be happy for you to contact someone to confirm their identity.
“Enquiries into this offence are continuing and I would ask anyone who can help to contact myself at the Spen Valley NPT on 101 or CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
