Police in Halifax will be giving Christmas crime prevention advice at a series of events being held in the town centre.

Officers will be at popular locations across Halifax during six events starting on Thursday December 11.

They will be out and about in the force exhibition van offering crime prevention advice about how to stay safe over the Christmas period and to reduce your chances of being a victim of crime.

PC Ben Doughty, the Halifax town centre ward officer, said: “This is an opportunity for people to come along, get free crime prevention advice and to meet local officers.

“We will be talking with people about how to have a safe night out over Christmas and other festive crime prevention advice including keeping your valuables out of sight.

“There will also be a free property marking opportunity and free property registration. By marking your property and registering it you help to make life more difficult for criminals.

“Youngsters will also be able to get involved and the police mascots will be on show and there will be mini uniforms for budding cops of the future to try on.”

Top tips for a crime free Christmas include:

Using a timer switch so that your house lights come on when you are not in.

Keep your valuables out of sight

Mark your property

Be on your guard against bogus callers

Keep your car safe by parking in a well-lit area and locking your vehicle. Also remove expensive items such as sat navs

PC Doughty added: “These are just a few tips to helping you to reduce your chances of becoming a victim of crime. To find out more come along to one of our events.”
