Police want witness of serious sexual assault to contact them

Police are appealing for a man to come forwards who may have witnessed a serious sexual assault in Morley in the early hours of Saturday (May 25) morning.

The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (Hmet) are appealing for the man to contact them after he potentially came across the incident on Fountain Street, Morley.

The incident took place at about 3.30am opposite the entrance to Morley Academy after an 18-year-old woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a male.

Police believe the attack was witnessed and then disturbed by another man, allowing the victim to flee and contact authorities.

Following enquiries a 25-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with the matter.

Detective Superintendent Mark Ridley of the Hmet, said: “We have made an arrest in connection with this assault and are conducting enquiries.

“We are keen to trace a man described as having dark hair and wearing glasses who potentially saw and disturbed the assault and I would urge him to come forwards to speak to us as a potential witness.

“This man or anyone who has information is asked to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team on 101 or CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
