The man accused of unlawfully killing a former paratrooper in Sowerby Bridge has appeared in court.

Tattooed Daniel Duckworth, 35, of West Street, Sowerby Bridge, spoke only to confirm his name and address at Calderdale Magistrates Court. It is alleged he killed 42-year-old Richard Reynolds, also of Sowerby Bridge, after an incident in Wharf Street on May 13. Mr Reynolds, a tree surgeon, was in hospital 12 days before doctors turned off his life-support machine.

Duckworth appeared in court on May 25 accused of assault. But the charge was changed after Mr Reynolds’ death. He was remanded in custody until June 21.
