A man was punched in the face as he attempted to defend his Halifax home against an intruder.

The robbery happened at a house on Athol Gardens, Ovenden, at 8.30pm on Saturday, December 6.

As the victim challenged the male intruder, who escaped with a small amount of cash, he was hit in the face.

Fortunately, he was not seriously injured.

Police believe the robber was local and may have been in the area for some time before entering the house.

He is described as white, aged between 30 and 35, thin and clean shaven.

He was wearing a rust coloured woolly hat, dark coloured trousers and a yellow ‘heavy duty’ jacket.

DC Toby Facey, of Calderdale CID, said: “I would appeal for any witnesses to come forward and call on 101.

“The man we want to speak to in connection with this incident is thought to be local and may have been in the area for some time before the incident happened.”
