Former Halifax RLFC star Jamie Bloem has been arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with an under-age girl.

Bloem, a married man of Skircoat Green, Halifax, was arrested after a complaint to police.

He has been released on bail and inquiries are continuing.

A police spokesman said: “A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual activity with a child in connection with an ongoing child protection investigation. He has been bailed pending further inquiries.”

After moving to England from South Africa he put down roots in Halifax from where he runs a landscaping business.

Currently, he is a rugby league referee and has been tipped to breakthrough into Super League.

He is also a pundit for BBC Radio Leeds.

Bloem was recently player-coach of Stainland Stags RLFC.

He has also played rugby union and has represented Halifax RUFC and Old Brodleians RUFC.

The Rugby Football League said it was aware of the police investigation.
