Severed hand: firm guilty

A SHEET metal company has pleaded guilty to negligence that resulted in a severe injury to one of its workers.

Calderdale magistrates heard that RDB Fabrication and Engineering failed to ensure effective measures to stop the movement of a dangerous part on one of their machines.

Jamie Raynor lost his hand in the accident at Halifax Sheet Metals, Queen’s Road, on October 10, 2009.

The prosecution was brought by the Health and Safety Executive under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

The case has been adjourned until April 6 for the preparation of documents for sentencing.
