Police are appealing for witnesses after a taxi driver was assaulted.

The incident happened between 4.30pm and 5.30pm on Monday, September 2. The complainant picked up a fare at 4.30pm in Halifax and was asked to drive to Ovenden and then onto Sowerby Bridge from where he was asked to drive to the final destination - the Co-op at Ripponden.

The taxi driver was then hit in the face by the passenger who left the vehicle.

At this point the taxi driver followed the man but was then hit again - this time in the chest before the man left the scene. The taxi driver was not seriously injured in the incident.

A man officers want to speak to in connection with the incident is described as white, 5ft 8ins tall, of medium build and 21-years-old. He had brown hair with short back and sides and braces on his teeth. He was wearing a yellow shirt and white trainers. He may have walked off with a bag of clothes.

Officers are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident especially as the co-op is likely to have been busy at the time.
