A TEENAGER has appeared at court accused of robbing shops armed with a sword.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced two charges of robbery at Calderdale Magistrates’ Court.

The incidents are alleged to have taken place on April 10 and April 23.

A shop on Pellon Lane was targeted by masked raiders, as was another store on Battinson Road. Cigarettes and cash were stolen. He also faces a further charge of burglary that allegedly took place at Halifax High School on April 20 when cameras and cash were taken.

The teen is yet to enter a plea to the charges.

Magistrates told him these were very serious offences.

He will appear before the Calderdale Youth Court next Wednesday, May 2.
