A teenager banned from Calderdale was sent to a young offender institution for stealing a friend’s scooter.
Nathan Holcroft, 18, of no fixed abode, took the R50X scooter worth £1,700 from a property at Claire Road, Halifax, on September 27.
Prosecution Jessica Strange told Calderdale magistrates’ the complainant had left his helmet and keys downstairs as he played computer games with friends in an upstairs bedroom.
Holcroft committed the crime when he was under a Calderdale and Leeds curfew - not to enter either between 7pm and 7am.
Mitigation Mark Baxendale said Holcroft did not intend to permanently deprive the scooter owner. “The defendant’s intention was to take the scooter for a spin. When he returned he discovered the owner had gone to the police station - he then stole the bike with intention.”
The prolific offender was sentenced to 12-weeks in a young offender institution.
“All hope is not lost for this young man,” said Mr Baxendale.
