Two people had to be cut from a car following a two-vehicle crash in Halifax this afternoon (Friday).

The incident happened on Shay Lane at 2.02pm when a silver Mercedes and blue Rover were involved in a head-on crash.

Two people, a woman and an elderly man, had to be freed from the Rover by firefighters from Halifax and Illingworth, and have been taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

The woman, whose injuries are believed to be minor, was freed from the car as soon as firefighters arrived, Fire crews had to cut the roof off the car to free the man, who complained of back pain. He was put onto a long board before being put in an ambulance.

The driver of the Mercedes suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Police have put a road closure in place, causing tailbacks in the surrounding areas. The road is due to re-open at 6pm.
